Although I ended my month with a bit of a depressing post, not all was bad in August. I managed to accomplish three goals! And I made great progress on some others, one of which is making me particularly happy. First let’s have a look at the goals I’ve completed.
No. 92: Host a barbecue in the backyard for friends or family.
I hosted my very first barbecue ever! It was a very special one for me, because I hosted it for all the people who had stepped up to help me dig a pond. That was a task I had dreaded for the past three years now and something I couldn’t manage to do alone (or with just Ruud). Eleven people stepped up to help! It felt so special, having all these people joining forces to help me accomplish the most difficult task. And having them all together celebrating the hard work was truly special.
No. 55: Buy a nice ceiling lamp for the bedroom and hang it.
For years my bedroom had just a light bulb hanging from the ceiling. How weird, considering how easy it is to buy a lamp and hang it (especially when you got a boyfriend who knows how to hang a lamp). But for some reason I had stalled this task for ages. Until I found the perfect lamp shade when I least expected it. I wasn’t even lamp shopping, but there it was. After hanging it, it appeared less perfect however. Apparently I had bought a lamp shade that was supposed to be standing, not hanging. The light bulb pops out from below. Oh well. At least something pretty is hanging from my ceiling now. I will search for a more appropriate lamp shade later. I promise.
No. 39: Upload a video on YouTube (in English) in which I teach something I know a great deal about.
This was a big deal for me. I am always insecure about whether people would like to hear what I have to say. That’s why I had put this goal under ‘Inner self’. I wanted to gain some more confidence by just doing it. If you’d like to know more about my reasons for making this video, but missed the post, you can find it here.
When I created this goal, I didn’t know what kind of video I would be making, but I figured it would have something to do with dog training. I ended up doing something completely different though. My video is a tutorial on how to make pocket letters. If you don’t know what that is, feel free to watch it:
Besides the goals I have accomplished, I also made progress on some other goals.
No. 52: Finish constructing the backyard.
I already told you about this one. The eleven helpers helped me a lot with this goal! Besides the pond, they also helped placing a terrace for our scooter and bins and they helped create the basis for my garden path with white sand. I still have a lot to do, but it is totally manageable now! I think I just may complete this goal before winter!
No. 77: Watch 101 movies. (25/101)
August probably was my favorite movie month so far, because Ruud and I went to the cinema three times! We saw Minions, Inside Out and Jurassic World. If you’d like to see the trailers or read my opinion about these movies, visit this post.
No. 36: Take a selfie every month (11/33)
My eleventh selfie. You know what this means? I’m on 1/3 of my Day Zero Project. Yikes! I can’t believe it! Time went by so fast! Well, to be honest, I’m not completely there, because I started the project at the end of October, not the beginning. Phew!
No. 35: Own either the diary ‘One line a day’ or ‘Q&A a day: a 5 year journal’ and write in it every day.
I admit that I forgot to write a couple of days in August, but I still answered all the questions. I just answered some of them a couple of days later. No big deal, as my opinion doesn’t change too much within a few days.
No. 14: Learn how to crochet. Then take a picture of a finished project.
I got help on this one! One of my new pen pal friends saw my list and knew she had to come to the rescue on my crochet goal. She’s a crochet expert and she made a few beginners videos especially for me! That was so incredibly nice! It motivated me to start immediately. I haven’t gotten very far. I am still struggling with my first basic stitches, but at least I have started. If I practice my stitches regularly from now on, I can crochet myself a scarf for this winter.
No. 16: Learn at least one song on the guitar and upload it on YouTube.
Well, I can play two songs now and I am learning my third and fourth! I just don’t think they’re good enough yet to put on YouTube. But I’m almost there. Maybe this month… Wouldn’t that be great?
No. 40: Lose 30 kg (66 lbs). (5,8/30)
I actually haven’t progressed on this goal. In fact, I had a major fallback. I opened up about it in this article. I started to fail like a failure and I was pulling myself in a downwards spiral. But writing about it really helped. I have regained some confidence that I can turn the tide and lose weight again from now on. In fact, after writing the article (which was yesterday) I already lost almost a whole kg (2 lbs)! Writing about it apparently literally got a weight off my shoulders… That’s why this blog and all my updates are so important to me!
In total I have accomplished 20 goals now. Considering I’m almost on 1/3 of my project, I am a little behind. A little far behind perhaps… No harm is done though. I still have almost two years to get back on schedule. I will try to accomplish at least four goals each month now, five would even be better. Then it should work out fine. I just have a lot of long-term goals which take some time.
